Aviva Hong Kong takes part in Earth Hour 2011

As one of the sponsors of Earth Hour 2011, representatives from AvivaHong Kong(Aviva) were invited to attend the countdown event at the Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui to witness the Victoria Harbour waterfront plunge into darkness for an hour between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on 26 March 2011.
In addition, we took the opportunity to encourage our business partners to get behind their commitment to the global ‘lights out’ event because we believe that promoting and incorporating these simple actions into everyone’s lifestyle is crucial to tackling climate change.
In support of the event, wealso adopted “Sharp Leave Day” on Friday, 25 March, to encourage our staff to switch off all lights and equipments and get off work on time.
Started in 2007, Earth Hour is a global event organised by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), andheld every year on the last Saturday of March. Earth Hour 2011was the biggest Earth Hour to date with people from134 countries and territories taking part by turning lights off, including those of iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas.
Aviva has been a sponsor of Earth Hour Hong Kong for 2009 and 2011. We have been showing ongoing support and commitment to various initiatives combating climate change.
At Aviva, we believe that effective and immediate action is needed to save the Earth. Sustainable efforts are needed on catalyzing a low carbon working environment, reducing energy consumption and combating air pollution, which altogether will have a positive impact on the lives of everyone and benefit our future generations.
