Aviva Ltd will give Singaporean teenagers a unique chance to participate in the Australian Open, the Grand Slam tournament of Asia Pacific. Shaun Meadows, CEO of Aviva Ltd said "I am delighted that this year, Aviva in Singapore will be joining Aviva Australia to send teenage ballkids on the court at the Australian Open in Melbourne in January 2009". The selection programme is scheduled to take place on September 27th and 28th at the Marina Square shopping centre tennis courts

Aviva is one of the global corporate sponsors of Ballkids at a Grand Slam tennis tournament. It is a unique opportunity for kids between the ages of 12 to 15 years to fuel their tennis ambitions and watch the world's best players in action.

The Ballkids selected from Singapore will form part of a team of three hundred kids from Australia and the Asia Pacific, reflecting Aviva's growing presence in the region. The initiative is part of Aviva's agenda to connect with local communities to promote sports amongst the youth. Since 2003, Aviva Ballkids have been selected from Korea, Singapore, China, India, Thailand and New Zealand for the Australian Open.

Meadows remarked that "As a global insurer, Aviva is proud to bring a significant sporting event to our local community to inspire our children to live their aspirations in sports and life in general. This is a great opportunity for Singaporean children to be a part of the junior team providing support to world-class tennis champions at the Asia Pacific tennis grand slam event and it is our privilege to enable this for our younger generation in Singapore".

Selection Criteria

Interested youngsters aged between 12 to 15 years old (in January 2009), with a keen interest in tennis, can apply to participate. Kids must be Singaporean or permanent residents of Singapore and unconditionally available to be in Melbourne from 9 January 2009 to 23 January 2009.
